Some grain spawn can be used to fruit mushrooms without the need of a substrate, however, grain spawn is designed to be inoculated onto a suitable substrate - this substrate is described in every product's description under 'Cultivation Information'.

What's the difference between sawdust spawn and grain spawn?

Accepted Answer

Sawdust spawn is a substrate that is inoculated with mushroom mycelium, whilst grain spawn is grain that is inoculated with mycelium. Both types of spawn are used to inoculate a substrate. Most growers tend to use grain spawn.
